But the problem is, many execs that are very good at DOING their job…aren’t nearly as good at FINDING a job.

I’ve learned this over the last 15 years as an executive recruiter and volunteer career coach.

At first this surprised me…but then it made sense.  It’s a situation they don’t find themselves in very often (hopefully).  And it involves a completely different skill-set!

As a result, most executives do the best they can…but they stumble along as they put way too much stock in their resumes; too much hope in the ability of recruiters to help; and too many unrealistic expectations on their “elevator pitch.”

Perhaps most unfortunate, they prolong unemployment by hanging onto familiar but less effective networking strategies.

The situation is made more difficult by the volume of readily available job search advice…much of which ranges from feeble to flawed.  Hence the need for job search advice that is highly effective and cuts through the clutter.

Personal Info: I live in the northern suburbs of Atlanta with my wife of 20+ years, two teenage children and two Labrador Retrievers.  I enjoy most outdoor activities, and playing sports more than watching them (including skiing and competitive tennis).
